IMPROVEMENTS to the NBC Premier League 2025/2026 Rules
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has reviewed and made important amendments to the regulations that will be used in the NBC Premier League for the 2025/2026 season. These improvements are aimed at increasing competition, accountability, and quality of the league. Below we have prepared a summary of the main changes:
1.Rule 62 – Foreign Players (Section 1.2)
A club is not allowed to register more than one foreign goalkeeper for all competitions under the TFF. This measure aims to control the quality and equity of the league by ensuring that the goalkeeper position is prioritized for local talent.
2.Rule 39 – Referees (Section 7.1)
The TFF Referees Committee can now arrange referees from outside Tanzania to officiate NBC Premier League games. The goal is to increase accountability and quality of play by bringing in referees with international experience.
3.Rule 41 – Player Control
A player who receives a yellow card in four (4) games will not be allowed to play in one of his team's next games. Originally, this penalty was given after only three cards. It has now been moved to four, increasing discipline and giving players the opportunity to play more carefully.
4.Rule 08 – Winner (Champion)
If teams finish with the same points, the champion will be determined based on the following criteria in order:
The process of determining the winner if the teams are tied on points:
The team with the best average in the results of the games that brought the teams together (Head to Head). If they are still tied, the team with the better goal difference. If still tied, the team that scored the most goals wins. If they are still tied, the team with the fewest goals conceded wins. If they are still tied, the team that won the most away games wins.
Improvements: Multiple tiebreakers have been set to ensure the winner is clearly identified.
5.Rule 17 – Game Procedures
Teams are allowed to use the dressing rooms 8 hours before the game starts. A team that fails to comply with this rule will be banned from using its home stadium for a minimum of three games.
